As the lead Partner in the EU Erasmus+ project ‘Upskilling Generation Net-Zero’ (GenNZ) 2024 – 2025, ESA created and tested a workplace training solution to address the deficit in ‘green’ management KSBs in the tourism sectors of Greece and Slovenia.
Before her teaching and research career, since her 20s, Sharon held Executive Director board appointments and worked 15 years in senior roles in the electronic component sector, developing international business through global distribution and supply chains.
2000, demoralised by the environmental impact of the electronics sector, she upskilled in ‘Adult Education Teaching' and developed ground-breaking, customised executive learning programmes for leading sustainable business.
2001-2007 she designed and delivered immersive learning programmes for directors and senior managers in wilderness and mountainous places of natural beauty in Europe, Australia (Tasmania) and China. 2007 she contributed to climate change research at the Arctic Circle. These programmes were the inspiration for building ESA Crete
Sharon teaches business managers and directors the essential ‘Green Skills’ of leadership towards NetZero and for the future of business in a green economy. She also undertakes consulting engagements to help businesses embed sustainability principles at the heart of their organisational development and strategy.
Her academic work includes a longitudinal empirical study to explore the reasons for disconnect between organisational intentions to embed sustainability and outcomes. Sharon’s PhD research at Cranfield University focused on 'The relationship between managers' sensemaking and organisational aspirations to embed sustainability principles'. Her research revealed how individuals' sensemaking processes can be incongruent with their organisation’s sustainability intentions and a barrier to enactment. Her research has been applied to sectors including the construction and tourism sectors and can be read in her recent publications at Researchgate.
